8. Thierry Chocolates Mount Pleasant
Thierry Mount Pleasant at 265 E 10th Ave, elevates the café experience with high-caliber offerings and an inviting classy atmosphere. After a month in France, I can honestly say that this patisserie is on par with some of the best spots I visited in Paris. Renowned for decadent hot chocolate drinks and expertly crafted desserts, Thierry is equally perfect for solo computer time or unwinding after hours with friends to share a selection of elegant treats and conversation.

To elaborate more on just how good I think Thierry is 😅, danishes and croissants here are buttery perfection, and their macarons are actually the best I have ever had with rotating seasonal flavours like saskatoon berry, oolong tea, passion fruit + orange and bergamot vanilla. Their mille feuille easily pleases European-accustomed taste buds. To top it all off, enticing booth seating with convenient outlets makes Thierry an ideal spot to work on your laptop or dive into a project.

One of the best points about Thierry is its hours – open until 10pm Friday and Saturday nights and 9pm every other day of the week. Mornings tend to not be too busy; an unrivalled opportunity to nab outlet seating in one of the best work-friendly cafés in East Vancouver.

10. Cartems Donuts
*Update: As of February 14, 2025, Cartems Donuts 🍩 in Vancouver is closed. As a Vancouver business of 14 years, Cartems will definitely be remembered! Luckily its legacy will live on in this Main Street space as North Vancouver donut/coffee shop, Cream Pony, expands to its 2nd location here, set to open in Fall 2025.
Cartems Donuts at 2190 Main Street is a legendary work haunt. Housed in a charming, century-old building, the café features lush monstera plants hanging from the ceiling, wooden tables and a inclusive atmosphere. Excellent drip coffee pairs perfectly with earl grey, smoked maple walnut, and matcha shortbread donuts. They also have gluten-free and vegan baked donuts, which are basically the ‘healthiest’ donuts you can get in Vancouver.
